Project Goals
The City of Kalamazoo created a series of pre-approved housing plans and supported the construction of several prototypes. Both sustainable and equitable, these plans streamline the development process for small-scale housing, making these kinds of projects accessible to small-scale developers. We assisted with the design, created sample pro-formas, and established the process for the application, approval, and general use of the pre-approved plans.
Duplex + Carriage House Prototype
The duplex and detached garage ADU are the first completed projects out of the series of pre-approved plans.
Stacked duplexes are not new, but this duplex is the first of its kind. Its solar grid, triple-pane UV-filtering windows, ERVs and heat pump water heaters, and new foundation system make it incredibly energy efficient.
